What Are Essential Skills?

HRDC developed this system as a comprehensive description of the range of skills which as “essential” for work, learning and life. This includes reading text, document use, numeracy, writing, oral communication, working with others, continuous learning, critical thinking skills and computer use.

What is Literacy and Basic Skills?

LBS is basic education for adults in 6 competencies:

  • Find and use information (read continuous text)
  • Communicate ideas and information (complete and create document)
  • Understand and use numbers (manage money)
  • Use digital technology
  • Manage learning
  • Engage with others

How do I register for a program?

You can register by contacting our office directly, filling out an online application form, or visiting us in person. Our team will guide you through the registration process.

Do I need to have previous education to enroll?

No, our programs are designed for learners of all levels. We’ll assess your current skills and recommend the best program for you.
