My first impression of the school was it was small but really inviting. Not at all what I thought a school looked like, as I always thought schools were giant buildings not quite an office type space. To which I have to say, it made me think this won’t be intimidating and better learning environment.

I found out about Adult Learning and Training Center in two ways. First by my uncle & a coworker and the second was online through Facebook and Ontrac. I knew of the center but I didn’t know what courses were offered and the whole process. Ontrac helped direct me to the website to which I found what this amazing school did.

The programs I am taking are Basic Computers (to which I am going into intermediate right now) and an Office Administration Course.

My personal goal is to change my career path into a steady office job and to get out of retail. I hope to see myself at the end of the year in a new job to which I’m studying to get into. I’ve always had jobs in retail & food industry, but found a newfound love of organizing and just inputting information.

My final thoughts on the Adult Learning and Training Centers services is I’m so glad I found this and so grateful to have this school available in town. I was never good in school but I have found fun in learning. The staff are so approachable and fun. Always happy to help with whatever you’re struggling with & teach with a smile, no matter what wild crazy ideas you come to the table with.

I started my journey at ALTC April of this year and I can honestly say going there has helped me in my life. I suffer anxiety and having such nice, accommodating teachers in such a welcoming space has lessened my anxiety overall in my life. I am becoming more confident, feel smarter, and even have a
job. I feel all these positive things are happening in my life because of the impact ALTC has had on my life.

I first heard about ALTC by googling Adult Education in Smiths Falls. Later I went through Ontrac to find a job, and my worker suggested ALTC. I was able to get in touch with them that very day. I felt that I was finally doing something to better myself and was excited to start. At ALTC, I am taking Soft Skills and Computer training (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

I am progressing tremendously by attending ALTC. I have obtained a job, my anxiety has lessened, I have become more open and confident, and I am learning new things every time I go to class. Like I said before, I don’t know how they do it at ALTC, but I have become a better version of myself by attending classes there

Participating in the basic & intermediate computer programs at your center has made my daily work much easier. I can independently create advertisements, flyers, etc., and quickly navigate the necessary software. And something else… I took an online computer course, you can’t even imagine how much better, more effective, and serious your courses are. I am very grateful to Ann and all of you! It’s nice that you (your center) exists.

When I first came to ALTC, I thought it was very comfortable and small and quaint. I was nervous and unsure, but Pauline made me feel comfortable and welcomed during my assessment.

I was referred to ALTC through Ontrac to increase my computer skills, as we all know, I am lacking LOL.

My personal goals are to obtain as much computer knowledge as possible to be able to obtain a really good job, as computers seem to be everywhere.
Ann has been an excellent teacher in our class, and I truly appreciate being able to attend ALTC. I hope there are things I can continue on while I am unemployed, as the more Ann keeps teaching me, the better chance I will have of securing a good job. Thank you all!

I’ve been retired from the workforce for quite a while and haven’t really used the computer for much more than scrolling on social media. Then I moved from Toronto to Smiths Falls, and suddenly everything I could do in person had to be done online. But I was sadly out of date technology-wise – even my computer was obsolete with the advent of Windows 11. I needed a way to catch up and become comfortable with integrating the computer back into my life.

My sister made me aware of ALTC. She’d also been looking for some kind of a computer course, came across ALTC, and mentioned it to me. ALTC turned out to be exactly what I needed. We both decided to sign up. My first impression of the school was very positive. The staff was friendly, welcoming and non-judgmental. The center was well set up, efficient, and comfortable. I was very impressed.

The Basic Computer course I’m taking covers everything I need – basic computer overview, Windows 11 Operating System, Internet, Emails, and File Management, as well as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Far from being basic, the course gives an overview of each subject but then gives a detailed breakdown of every function involved.

I’m doing well, moving through the material comfortably and enjoying it immensely. The trainers bend over backwards to give me everything I need to succeed – they are always available by email to answer any questions, go out of their way to provide any equipment I need, and are endlessly patient when I get stuck on a problem.

Going back to school as a senior is always a challenge, but the dedicated people at ALTC make it a satisfying and enjoyable experience that I would recommend to anyone. Kudos to them!

I had been looking for a computer course to upgrade my skills. Most of my computer work had been done on systems that had been specifically built for my employer, and I had no expertise in performing basic computer tasks such as formatting an email, creating folders, etc. I googled “Computer courses in Smiths Falls” and ALTC came up. It seemed perfect for me!

Ultimately, my goal is to be able to enjoy my computer and be proficient in basic computer literacy. I want to be able to organize my files, create documents and navigate the internet. Prior to this course, I had no idea of he myriad of projects that Office Word makes possible, so now I am looking forward to creating my own cards, decorations, newsletters etc. What a bonus!

In conclusion, I am delighted with my progress at ALTC. I am looking forward to taking other practical, useful courses here (Cellphone Basics will be so useful!) The positive learning environment and the exceptional instructors make everything so easy and comfortable. What a fabulous community resource!
